Why Is RJ45 in Short Supply?

RJ45 is currently experiencing market shortage conditions. Sorry if this isn't an appropriate question for this board. If it's not, can you suggest a better place to ask it rather than just closing the question? I am upgrading my FIOS internet to Gigabit, and then upgrading the wring where needed. I had to pull some new ethernet cable through the basement ceiling, and opted for a spool of Cat6 for "future-proofing".
